Overall, this is an amazing model. The detailing is impeccable, with model and era specific features for each car. The paintjob looks flawless. It runs well out of the box with good weight, correct coupler height, and perfectly gauged metal wheelsets. Athearn could do better by ditching the ez-mate couplers and going with kadee knuckle couplers. My biggest and more or less only complaint (since replacing knuckles is almost a given on any model) is the electronics. While the decoder is full featured, the new intelligent consisting function is quirky at best (and troublesome if using a DC system). Out of the box, the car is much too quiet to comprehend in a noisy layout room and the lights much too dim. They can be turned up a little bit by adjusting CV's but are still hard to see in a brightly light room. Lighting and sound volume aside, this is an excellent model and WELL WORTH Trainmaster's highly discounted price (and for that matter the price of other online hobby shops as well)!
